Nothingness: Exploring the Essence and Boundaries

Death ends a form of existence which one did not choose - an existence filled with countless possibilities of suffering. Yet, if one is fortunate enough to experience deep love, it may at first serve as full compensation for the compulsion to exist, as long as the will to survive persists. Eventually, however, one must either leave the beloved behind or continue living without them, turning the gift of love into renewed loss.

The chess game of life cannot be won ...unless one redefines the meaning of victory. It always ends in loss if played at its best, or in a draw if its finiteness is accepted, or even longed for in transcendence. The Dao 道 of Being includes the No-longer-being, as life arises from nothingness and must return to it, reflecting the cyclical nature of existence. Before Being emerged from Not-yet-being, only the transcendent and unfathomable emerged from itself.

Emergence from absolute nothingness begins in an intermediate stage of pure potentiality: as ideas (Plato), poetically addressed as “images" or "germs” in non-being (Laozi), or in modern physics as “virtual” particles and quantum superpositions until they collapse upon observation. This triad of not-yet, already, and not-more applies to all things, not just to life, but also to atoms, the whole universe, to space and time.

Consider the moment when a loved one's touch feels like an anchor in the vast ocean of existence, grounding us amidst the waves of possible suffering. Life, love, and the cosmos are bound together in this intricate dance between being and not-being, reminding us of the profound interconnectedness of all things and beings.

Der Tod beendet eine Existenzform, die man sich nicht selbst gewählt hat – eine Existenz, erfüllt von unzähligen Möglichkeiten des Leidens. Doch wer das Glück hat, tiefe Liebe zu erfahren, erlebt sie zunächst als vollwertigen Ausgleich für den Zwang zu existieren – solange der Überlebenswille anhält. Irgendwann jedoch muss man den geliebten Menschen zurücklassen oder ohne ihn weiterleben – und so wird das Geschenk der Liebe zur erneuten Quelle des Verlustes.

Das Schachspiel des Lebens lässt sich nicht gewinnen – es sei denn, man definiert den Sieg neu. Es endet stets mit einer Niederlage, wenn man es „am besten“ spielt, oder mit einem Remis, wenn man seine Endlichkeit annimmt – oder sie sogar transzendierend ersehnt. Der Dao 道 des Seins schließt auch das Nicht-mehr-Sein ein, denn das Leben entspringt dem Nichts und muss dorthin zurückkehren – Ausdruck des zyklischen Charakters allen Daseins. Noch bevor das Sein aus dem Noch-nicht-Sein hervorging, entstieg nur das transzendente Unfassbare sich selbst.

Das Hervorgehen aus dem absoluten Nichts beginnt in einer Zwischenstufe reiner Potenzialität: als Ideen (Platon), poetisch als „Bilder“ oder „Keime“ im Nichtsein (Laozi) bezeichnet, oder – in der modernen Physik – als „virtuelle“ Teilchen und Quantenzustände, die erst durch Beobachtung kollabieren. Diese Dreiheit aus Noch-nicht, Schon und Nicht-mehr gilt für alles: nicht nur für das Leben, sondern ebenso für Atome, das gesamte Universum, Raum und Zeit.

Man denke an den Moment, wenn die Berührung eines geliebten Menschen wie ein Anker wirkt – inmitten des weiten Ozeans der Existenz –, uns verankert im Aufruhr möglicher Leiden. Leben, Liebe und Kosmos sind in diesem feinen Tanz zwischen Sein und Nichtsein untrennbar verbunden – eine stille Erinnerung an die tiefe Verbundenheit aller Dinge und Wesen.

Großvateruhren und Großvaterherzen bleiben eines Tages stehen – manchmal sogar gleichzeitig.
